Education was not free. So wealthy people could only go to school. Rich girls were not always allowed to go to school. Some children were taught at home by tutors. At school boys were taught history, maths, reading and writing. Boys wore a white tunic which is a long dress down to their knees. A stylus is a small metal pen that Romans used for writing. The houses of some rich Romans had central heating and even toilets.
